Visakhapatnam: Buoyed by the announcement by the State Government, mainly the offer to allot land at Re.1 per acre and early bird incentives for those coming up with mega investment in technology field, several leading IT companies are evincing interest to set up their development centers in Visakhapatnam.

Capgemini is in talks with the State Government to obtain land after a preliminary visit to the city by its teams. A source in the IT department toldBizz Buzzthat they wish to start a 200-seater facility immediately at IT hills to start with. This is followed by the encouraging talks held by the State Government with Infosys and Accenture.

Accenture has already submitted a representation for 10 acres at Rs.10 along with a slew of incentives. Talks are going on to bring more anchor players so as to develop a comprehensive ecosystem in the city as part of efforts to replicate the success of Silicon Valley.

There are also reports that IBM, which almost shutdown its operations in the city during the pandemic, is staging a comeback to create over 500 jobs with projected exports of Rs.320 crore.

The city office is expected to create products for the global export markets.

When contacted, AP Digital Technology Industry (APDTI) Network chairman Sreedhar Kosaraju told Bizz Buzz that with the goodwill generated over transformation of Visakhapatnam into a global data centre hub and launching of operations by Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) and TCS gearing up to launch its operations, more and more big companies are keen on establishing their permanent campuses in the city.

He said the city is set to become a major tech hub in the next few years with the connectivity issues being addressed Meta deciding to make Visakhapatnam a landing centre along with Mumbai for its ambitious inter-continental sub-sea cable network.

CTS, which recently started its operations at a temporary campus and TCS, which has been given space at Millennium Towers at Rushikonda, have been allotted nearly 40 acres land in and around the IT Hills for almost free.

Under the new scheme approved by the State Cabinet, at the behest of IT, Electronics and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, 30 acres was allotted near Anandapuram in the district to a semiconductor chip assembling unit.
